A New Year's Eve update from my great surgeon: "We got it all and it hadn't spread. Now just four weeks of radiation to clean up the crumbs."
Thanks for listening. Can you tell that the coaches in my life are blessing my life with lots of affection and creativity? Once you've listened to my hunches about this, I'd love it if you'd post some of you own practices about presence and self-care when you "hit a speed bump. Or a wall."

so thought-provoking and useful. Here’s what this makes me think about ... We will all hit our own speed bumps and your approach is grounded in staying fully whole and connected to ourselves and others within that. Of noticing our own energy and needs and creating a plan to maintain our integrity in the midst of it. Thank you

Patty, thanks for the update and allowing us to share in your experience. Our culture is so individualistic that being invited into sharing the burden feels radical. I’m honored. I know this experience will make you an even more incredible coach, and I’m so glad to read those words from your surgeon. If you ever need a lunch buddy who has experienced some of the same, I’m game.

One of the most difficult things is to learn to accept a gift without feeling the need to pay back. I believe that being gracious - as you were - and accepting love and affection, concern and presence as gifts of those who care for you without any other thought, is in a way, a gift to them. The gift to feel that something that one does touches the heart of another human being - with nothing in return expected. The most beautiful thing is that we can always pay it forward.

What a thought-provoking up date. I love thinking about the gifts people have to give us. It makes me wonder what gifts are present in speedbumps and walls. In so many ways, they invite us to a deeper awareness, as you've shown here. Through this, we can also discover more about our purpose or gifts we have for others. Grateful to be a part of this community.

Thank you Patty for sharing your insights and your personal journey. I LOVE what you said about being more effective if we think about others as bearing gifts for us. This is such an optimistic and graceful way to live and engage with people... a true coaching mindset :) Your presence and expertise are such gifts to this community, thank you!

Thank you Patty. Yes. The gift of time and a light schedule, mindfulness about energy level, openness toward others while remembering that coaching is always about the client, all are helpful for us humans in the coaching profession, and for those we serve.
