The SeattleCoach Training Program New cohorts launch in October 2010 and January 2011 and we're interviewing now.
The Big Idea Our program is designed for proven leaders. Some are building a deep understanding of the art and practice of coaching as a part of their leadership and management portfolio. Others are beginning the process of becoming a professional coach, certified by the International Coach Federation (ICF).
We think of good training not only as mastery of a craft, but as "ethical confidence". (Check out this article on finding a great coach).
Unlike most coach-training companies, SeattleCoach trains people face-to-face in cohorts of carefully selected people in the Seattle / Puget Sound Region. Unlike most coaches, SeattleCoach graduates have access to continued small group development and support. As a small but scrappy program, we under-promise and over-deliver. We think we are worth remarking about.
The Training Team The SeattleCoach Training Program began in May 2008, and we now launch cohorts quarterly, taught by Patty Burgin, the founder of the program and by Tom Patterson, our newest instructor-coach. (We're thrilled to be adding Tom to the team.) Both Patty and Tom will be leading new training cohorts in Fall 2010. Tom's will focus on coach training for clergy leadership--check out his white paper on this strong new opportunity.
The Goods The proprietary SeattleCoach training takes place in three stages. Each is highly interactive, building on individual strengths and team learning. Together they fulfill the Coach-Specific Training for certification by the ICF.
Module I, "The Core Competencies of Coaching" leads participants through a thorough and experiential introduction to the bedrock skills of great coaching. This module lasts approximately three months and includes 42 hours of Coach-Specific training.
Module II, "Coaching Presence and Skills Mastery" builds on your skills and focuses on your personal leadership presence as an increasingly masterful Coach. This module too lasts approximately three months and includes 32 hours of Coach-Specific training, along with some required mentor coaching.
Group Mentorcoaching. Following completion of the two foundational Modules, developing coaches join this vigorous bunch to continue the process of refining their skills and personal presence. Participation in this group brings up to an additional 36 hours of Coach-Specific Training for coaches who are seeking a professional ICF credential.
The SeattleCoach Training Program has been approved by the International Coach Federation for a total of 140.5 "Coach-Specific Training Hours," all fully accepted for international certification. Click here to review the ICF's credentialing specifics.
"You are in for a great ride with an extraordinary coach--Patty. Expect many changes in you as in those you Coach! Welcome to this unique practice."
"Thank you so much for following your vocation. You've opened up a world of opportunity for other people to find their path. You have created magic."
A little history: Since our launch in 2008, coaches have trained in seven cohorts. Our vision is that our alliance of coaches will grow in numbers and quality in the years to come--individually and together making a difference in their organizations, on the West Coast and beyond. Pretty exciting.
