Ministry
teams, like all strong work groups, are amazingly complex organisms—a
matrix of gifts, generations,
genders,
responsibilities, meanings. Here's what we did.
Day One:
Spiritual Growth as
Individuals and as a Team.
Our
theme was
“The Power of Parables” as we focused
on why unique personal stories like yours and mine are, and have always
been,
at the
heart of Christian Spirituality. In my preparation I consulted some
ancient team-building practices from the Rule
of
St. Benedict and, among other things, in the
workshop, we used the
process of Lectio Divina in highlighting each team member's insights
into related Scripture passages.
Day
Two: Team Building.
Prior
to our
workshop, each participant finished
three assessments. We began the second day with my overview, and moved
to
individual presentations of assessment results (with questions and
reflection
for team members).
The reference we
began with is from the
Amplified
Bible, Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a
child in the way he should go [and in keeping with
his individual gift or bent], and when he is old he will not depart
from it."
I
then emphasized that, "Once
we’re grown-ups, this responsibility to understand and nurture our
unique nature
becomes our own--personally and professionally."
For
the balance of the second day's time together, this
gifted bunch co-created an experience where each person explained
(and interacted about) their personal "culture." This
is where the results of the three assessments began to play a key role.

From a note
following a
recent leadership workshop
"An
awesome boost
for our teams--great confirmation and support for me
having Patty facilitate training, meet key staff and observe my
leadership."

awesome CEO
